There are some authors that you just KNOW are going to be a slam dunk. Cindi Madsen is my go to author for swoony romance. I just fall in love with her characters and want to hang out with them.

I picked Resisting the Hero as my first read for 2014 because I was sure it would be the perfect read to kick off the year. I was right - of course!

One thing that did throw me off at first was the hero, Conner. When we first meet him, I thought he was the jerk that the real hero would rescue Faith from. He was pushy and arrogant - one thing that doesn't usually characterize Madsen's nice guy heroes. I was like uh-oh, I don't think I'm going to like this one. lol

No worries though! After that bumpy start we get to know Conner. He is a big flirt, and a bit of a ladies man, but in more of that hey - he's a good looking guy that has a healthy sex life but isn't ready to settle down yet way - not the man-whore, sleeping his way through town, jerk way. He's a REALLY good, responsible guy and has his sights set on Faith for something much more than a fling.

There are so many reasons for Faith to resist Conner. There's his playboy reputation - she's fallen for those guys before and been burned. He's best friends with her brother who is not a fan of this pairing. Then there's his career choice. He's a cop and member of the SWAT team. Faith just can't let herself choose a guy that puts himself right in the middle of danger and risk getting hurt with that type of loss again.

Resisting the Hero is super fun and flirty. The banter between Faith and Conner is off the charts steamy and fun. He shamelessly pursues her with his cheesy one liners but she is having none of it. They have an obvious attraction but they also have the beginnings of a solid friendship and relationship too. Ahhh - they made me swoon.

Despite all the fun, they have some rather big issues to overcome but this story never gets bogged down in angst. Yet the subject matters are treated respectfully and thoughtfully. Faith and Conner are good people trying to do the right thing.

Family and friends are important factors in this story as well and OMG I may have squealed with the cameos from the couples of the previous books in the Accidentally in Love series! You don't need to have read the previous books (although you should) but what a nice treat for fans!

So 2014 has gotten off to a great reading start!

I'd read Cinderella Screwed me Over by this author as well, and LOVED it, so I couldn't wait for this one. I'm happy to say, it was just as adorable. Connor is sexy, and sweet but just enough alpha to make you swoon. The chemistry was fantastic and the small town feel of this line always makes me feel like I want to go visit. Cindi Madsen has such a readable, casual style, that you feel like you're talking to friends. Now off to scoop up the rest of her books!
In what will be no surprise to anyone, I adored Resisting the Hero. I've read all of Madsen's published books, and I've enjoyed every single on. So let me tell you exactly why I loved this one.

•Resisting the Hero was funny. I knew I was in for an enjoyable ride when I busted out laughing twice within the first few paragraphs.

The bar was bursting with guys tonight--seriously, it was like Muscles R Us up in here, all filled-out chests and bulging arms with biceps upon biceps. Under other circumstances, Faith might take a moment to enjoy the view. But right now, she was looking for one particular meathead, and she happened to be related to him.

and...

"My friend and I were just talking about what a sausage fest this was, and then you came in." He ran his appraising gaze down her body, lingering on the V of her neckline.
Faith crossed her arms. "That works out, because I'm here for a weenie roast."

With funny little moments like this sprinkled throughout, Resisting the Hero made me smile and laugh repeatedly.

•Faith Fitzpatrick is another of Madsen's signature heroines. And by that I mean, I adored her. Faith was snarky yet sweet. Though she's spent the last decade running from the pain of her father's tragic death, Faith is now determined to demand more of herself, men. Faith can and does stand up for herself and what she wants. She may be a pretty shoddy cook, but she can always whip up a heaping dose of sarcasm and wit.

"Now, behave will you? I'm trying to watch bugs catch a mate. See if I can't get some tips.
"Hell, make your ass glow, and I might take back everything I've said about you."

•Connor Maguire is the total package. Now, I'm not emphasizing the physical here (though Connor is a total babe). Connor is a good man who's using his job to protect those who can't protect themselves. Connor knows what it's like to be helpless and afraid, and he is determined to do all he can for others. Oh, Connor also collects Star Wars figures, and claims to even have the sheets. Connor was a bit of a playboy, but from the moment Faith puts him in his place, it's pretty much game over for him.

"Just give me a shot, Faith. I won't let you down, I swear."

•Resisting the Hero brings us full circle in the Accidentally in Love series. The series began with Wes and Dani in Falling for Her Fiance, then we had Sawyer and Brynn in Act Like You Love Me. Due to close ties, between Wes and Connor and Faith and Brynn, I was very happy to see both couples again, particularly Wes and Dani because wedding bells are ringing! I love revisiting former series leads and seeing what happens after their happily ever after. The circle may be complete, but I will always remember each story fondly.

Cindi Madsen never fails to write stories I enjoy wholeheartedly. She always writes with such charm and wit, and creates characters who are utterly impossible not to love. If you are lucky for a series that will leave you with a smile on your face and a happy heart, I can't recommend Accidentally in Love highly enough.
I love brother's best friend stories and this book had one of the yummiest BBF's ever! Connor Maguire won me over the second he came onto the page and held my complete interest until the very last one. Paired with the feisty Faith Fitzpatrick, their chemistry was hot, palpable, and so much fun to read. The story was fast paced and filled with laugh out loud moments, heart, and family, in addition to the sweet and sexy times between Connor and Faith. This is a wonderful end to the series and I adored every part of it!
This book had me laughing and smiling the entire time I was reading. Connor and Faith's back and forth was filled with chemistry, and I liked the way they challenged each other and drove each other a bit crazy at times. In addiction to the romance, there was a lot of small town charm, and it was fun seeing the couples from books one and two. This book is a great stand alone and you don't have to have read the other books first. Great contemporary romance with lots of heart-felt moments.
