I opened this kindle edition and found myself within each individual as the stories progressed. I never thought we are influenced in our moods by the type of possessions we own. Do the Clearing edition by John Benz Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I received this book from the author in order to give an honest review.

I don't usually read self-help books because so many are one note or have impossible goals or are just too crazy to ever work. Just eating cabbage may make you lose weight, but how long can you keep that up? You get the picture?

However I was interested in this author's process on first clearing your possessions with negative connotations and then clearing your mind. All of the ideas in his book are common sense and very workable.

What about that rock your friend gave you that says, "Live a day at a time, but make sure this is the day you are living."? I always felt negative about my pal saying I was too much of a dreamer and she wanted me to just trudge along. It was freeing getting rid of it.

John Benz has lots of examples of other peoples' problems and solutions for doing "the Clearing". It's a very empowering book and once you put yourself on the road to do this it will be worthwhile. It's never too late do a little inventory of our possessions and thoughts and the best time to get started is now.

This is a well done tome that will have positive results if you take the time to commit to it.
I received a complementary copy of this book for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

No matter what your age, chances are you have some emotional baggage from the past that can still bring up painful memories. Wouldn’t it be a relief to get rid of those thoughts? An aid to do that is John Benz’ new book Do The Clearing A step-by-step guide to living a happy life and getting what you want. “By helping to free you from the negative thoughts and feelings from your past that are hindering your life today,” Benz writes, “the Clearing can create changes in a very short period of time.”

Do The Clearing is divided into two parts Clearing Your Possessions and Clearing Your Residual Thoughts. I found Benz advice easier to follow in the “Clearing Your Possessions” part. “If you haven’t already, go ahead and look around your home. Pick out a possession. What memories come to you when you think about it? Who gave it to you? Where did you get it? … How do those memories and associations make you feel?” the author writes. So after reading this I take a glance around my study where I have various books, travel pictures, and sports memorabilia displayed. I see a seat cushion from the only Super Bowl I have attended in person – Super Bowl XXI in Pasadena, California. If you’ve read my blog in the past you know I’m a HUGE Denver Broncos fan, but my Broncos lost that day to the NY Giants. “What am I keeping this around for???” I asked myself after considering Benz’ words. Memories of that Super Bowl are not pleasant for me!

Benz “possession clearing” may cause you to get rid of things far more significant the sports memorabilia. Perhaps an old picture from a failed relationship, a piece of furniture that you had during a unhappy period of your life, or something else. I found Benz suggestions very practical. He suggests getting rid of unpleasant possessions so you never see them again. Giving them to a relative or friend, or selling them in a garage sale doesn’t count – if you do that you could still come across the dreaded item in somebody else’s house!

The second part of the book, on Clearing your residual thoughts, was tougher to read yet even more powerful. Is there a story you keeping repeating to yourself about some painful event in the past? “If you don’t like the ending , why don’t you come up with a new one?” Benz asks. “If you go back, continue the story, and give this event a new ending, then you will see who you really are. Those old thoughts won’t fit, and they will go away,” he writes. Benz leads the reader through a step by step process to clear those unpleasant memories

1. Realize how brave you are
2. List events that ended badly
3. Prepare your new endings.
4. Repeat your three communications
5. Write your commitment statement
6. Begin, and go until you’re finished
7. Complete your closing ceremony

There’s guidance on confronting and forgiving, too, in the book’s 304 pages.

Do The Clearing is very well organized. Benz gives us his thoughts, backs it up with a bunch of real life “clearing” examples from his former clients, and includes a question and answer section for those who still may have doubts. “I feel bad confronting. I don’t want to hurt anyone. What should I do?” is an honest inquiry that Benz deals with in the q & a section.

“Never let any one person or thing blind you to the awesomeness you possess,” Benz writes in the book’s concluding pages. “and if some of the events in your life don’t turn out the way you planned, keep going, create new endings, and never stop making this the life you want.” I liked this positive recap. Do The Clearing motivated me to let go of some unpleasant things and thoughts from my past, and I think it will do the same for you, too.
I read a copy of 'Do The Clearing' to read and decide if I would like to provide an honest, unbiased review.
I rarely do book reviews, but after reading 'Do The Clearing,' I was compelled to.

I chose to put up some of my thoughts and experience using the author's system 'Do The Clearing' on Good Reads as well as on my blog, Ribbons and Pearls. Since I do my extensive reviewing on my blog and after putting my thoughts on this book up on Good Reads -- because I knew lot of my book-buddies who are into similar genres as I am would appreciate being able to see the book and a mini review there -- I came here to also write a brief review.

After skimming several reviews here on this book already, it seems like there is little else I can add regarding the actual contents of the book. Since the contents have been so extensively covered here in other reviews already, I will stick to simply including my own thoughts, results, and experiences using the incredible, life-changing system that the genius author has come up with and provided the world with.

Assuming you already know a great deal about the books' contents (since so much of it is put in other reviews here), I will start by saying that although I was familiar with objects holding energy, I had no idea that our possessions could have such huge impacts on us, but John Benz proves time and again in this book with dozens of real-life instances that our possessions do in fact affect every part of our lives.

The basic idea is to go through your possessions, one-by-one asking yourself "does this make me feel powerful."
Then, based on your answer, you either toss the object or keep it.

Sounds far easier than done, if you're like me.

I still find myself going through my belongings and asking this question. It turns out, it took me some time to really be able to answer the question. There was so many things I was unsure of. I felt so neutral to so many things I'd accumulated, so I worked my around it by slowly going through my things. When I come across something I'm just unsure of, I will place it out somewhere in the open and as I walk by the object every day, I'll kind of gauge how it makes me feel to look at it.

Eventually, I'll get an answer!
For example, an old dolphin oil lamp that was given to me as a gift from someone who I'm no longer in touch with (or fond of, for that matter). I came across it while 'clearing' objects stuffed in my closet. The item is so beautiful and intriguing, but I couldn't figure out if it was causing me to harbor negative feelings since the gift-er isn't someone I like anymore, and since it was stuck back in my closet for years.

So I left the lamp sitting out on my bathroom sink for 2 weeks, asking myself how I felt looking at it each day as I brushed my teeth.
I find that a lot of objects take some time to really find out how I personally feel. I think that's okay. So I've been doing this similar technique with many things I'm unsure of.

It turns out, after going through dozens of objects sitting on the bathroom sink, I eventually come to the realization that I may not feel extremely about the object either way, but it sure does get old trying to fit anything else on the sink and that's my answer. Get rid of it!

When I come to the realization that the object is simply getting in my way so much that I'm feeling frustrated, I then feel confident that it's not a "positive" object to keep and then I'm comfortable in my decision to let it go.

Other objects, I find myself just becoming more fond of as I look at it on the sink (or kitchen table) every day, and in those cases, by the time I've come to the end of the week and the conclusion that I do feel good about the object, I will find it its very own special place where I enjoy seeing it.

That's how my experience "doing the clearing" has kind of gone. It wasn't as easy for me to simply look at every thing I own and come to a certain answer on whether or not it made me feel powerful. In some cases, the item wouldn't necessarily evoke a super strong feeling of power within me, but it would give me a warm, happy sensation to see. That too is an answer to keep the item.

I have to say, I'm beyond impressed with John's technique and couldn't believe how much these things can impact our lives. When I finally 'cleared' most of my closet out, things have only looked up for me. I find myself with more space, which automatically makes me happier since I can utilize the extra space and make living in my bedroom more comfortable and easier since this system has allowed me to become so much more organized.

It was just what I needed to get on the path to the kind of organization I needed. It also helped me to kind of let go of feelings of guilt that I'd have when getting rid of certain things, such as items people had given me, but that I couldn't use or enjoy. I would keep them out of guilt until the words of John's book began to really take hold in my mind.

I'm finding myself more amazed as time goes on and I realize how the author's genius system can be applied to so many areas of my life. Heck, I even find myself looking at other people's items and asking "would that make ME feel powerful, if it were in my home?"

I feel like the techniques laid out in this book are so simple, well-laid out, and John Benz has a way with words like no other. I feel confident saying that this book and its techniques can easily be understood and implemented by anyone. *Anyone* and any age. Even younger folks like teenagers would greatly benefit from implementing these techniques in their life. Plus, it would teach them early how to appreciate and stay organized as well as clear on what they should keep and when they should choose to let items go.

I absolutely loved that the author was able to put the system/techniques into words that really stuck with me, even if I only read the book once, I won't ever forget any of it, including the many useful personal stories where others used the techniques and shared their results. I thought the personal accounts were super useful.

I have began to notice that before I ever even bring new objects into my home, I will be asking myself "will this make me feel happy and powerful? And what about the long-term?" I'll find out before ever bringing something in whether or not I could see myself loving and using an object for a long time. This has helped me from bringing in new "junk," that I could see myself just tossing in a closet only to accumulate more junk that makes the atmosphere cluttered and negative. So for me, the benefits of 'Do The Clearing' are looking to be more long-term.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much of an impact this self-help book had in my life. Like most people, even when I come across the rare self-help book that does have good advice, it's so hard to remember it or keep up with using the advice. With "Do The Clearing," I was able to start right away and even years from now, I'll be able to keep using the system to keep things in-check and live in harmony within my home and alongside the "stuff" I accumulate.

I feel like this book will undoubtedly prove to be a very appreciated gem by virtually everyone, no matter who. At first, asking yourself "does this make me feel powerful" with every object you own can feel a bit bizarre, but even if you feel yourself rejecting the entire ideals, you'll likely find yourself unable to resist trying it. And then it sticks!

I am impressed with the system and the author, and the book as a whole. I could go on about the areas of life that the techniques in this book have been useful, but I've already laid many of those out in my blog review. So I will keep it shorter here.

I rarely recommend a book, much less recommend a book to every single human, but this is just that useful. I can't imagine anyone reading this book -- even if you never finished it -- and not being able to appreciate it. Even if you don't find yourself being able to toss away every single thing you aren't 100% sure about, you'll likely find that you 'clear' out a lot of the negative. You'll also find yourself focusing a lot more on your feelings and what makes you feel positive/negative. In other words, if you're like me, you'll find yourself tuning further into how you're feeling and asking yourself why, how, and what. Eventually, this leads to learning how to feel better and better.
I opened this kindle edition and found myself within each individual as the stories progressed. I never thought we are influenced in our moods by the type of possessions we own. The negative items which we hang onto can be eliminated by removing them from your home. I will stop here and let you read it for yourself.
